A drinking-water purification system for treating surface water, groundwater, reservoir water or municipal tap water. The treatment configuration is selected according to source-water quality and may include coagulation, sedimentation, sand filtration, activated carbon, iron and manganese removal, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and disinfection. The system reduces turbidity, organic load and microbiological contamination to produce water suitable for municipal supply.
